"We have agreed that should either of us feel that the effort is not progressing, we shall express it so as to find another direction." The above is excellent to me, my therapist has been the same, basically said, in answer to my question "What if it doesn't work", "then, we will find something that does." I noted that and the "we" stood out also. And, it has been teamwork all along the way. Not easy though. If you sense that this therapist is able to help you then my suggestion is to continue to work with this person and back off on the EMDR for a while. Maybe you can go back to it later??? In regards to the work/art examples -- someone in another field may have similiar feelings about their work and are not able to bring in examples. It isn't so much what you actually produce or can bring in to show as it is what your are experiencing in your work and your life. As an educator I can't bring my work in --- well, I guess I could bring in a student and teach a lesson to show the results etc. Or, how about an accountant who finds it hard to figure out the books lately and has to work doubly hard to do that work. It wouldn't make much sense to the therapist for the accountant to bring in the books and show what he is having trouble with and how hard it was to do lately etc, when he use to go through it with ease.
