It is encouraging to read, "wow ---- what a response." Paraticularly from one who reports having to deal with "a long history of various traumas." But, again, the phrase "time consuming" is relative. My therapist explained when recommending Bioenergetics that it would not necessarily produce desired results in 5 sessions. To someone who spent 13 months & 50 sessions last year in talk therapy with ZERO benefit, 5 sessions is NOTHING. I am a child of the 40' & 50's and believe that if you are going to build a strong house you need a solid foundation. Naturally I want results as early as possible, but what is reasonable to expect? Everyone is an individual & will not progress at the same rate - I realize that. I can only gage from progress reported by others in similar treatment. At the same time, I do not want to invest my time and money in endless frustration with a therapy that is not effective in my particular condition. None of the counseling nor talk therapy was able to affect my core beliefs. Apparently my emotions are rigorously guarded. Memory and learning are enhanced by the emotional charge attached to new input. As we age and settle into routines, we are not so much "excited" with the daily happenings and have more difficulty recalling what happened yesterday or last week than we do happenings in our youth, when we were exposed to new events and new happenings more often. When the emotions are so "guarded" not much gets out.. OR IN. I had hoped that EMDR may be a technique to "end run" the "guard." Now, I am going with Bioenergetics as maybe another approach for opening a channel to the emotions. The question is: (which no one can answer) how long does one ring the bell when no one is at home?
