Everyone does indeed have some sense of self. Yours is that you are robotic and unreal. At least it seems that is the sense of self you are most aware of. I see an emdr therapist. I have spent the past five months doing work necessary to do emdr safely and effectively... a lot of work on sense of self, "ego state" work. It has been very healing. And I haven't even done much emdr yet. It sounds as though you have given up on emdr. That is too bad, it can be a great help. But it takes time... A last note: I can assure you that "technique" has been the difference for me (ego state theory and emdr, both)... not to denigrate the relationship, but I've had plenty of decent, good hearted "loveable" therapists and not one has helped me so much, or so quickly. A lot did damage out of a lack of understanding.
