Welcome to the Behavior OnLine forum on Outcome Assessment: Searching for a New Paradigm to Integrate Science and Practice.
We are happy to welcome Ellen Dornelas, who joins Steven Locke as co-facilitator of this discussion. Ellen has a long-standing interest and considerable in-depth experience in this subject. You can reach her at BOLoutcome@behavior.net and read about her here.
If you are a regular vistor here, you will note change in the emphasis of the discussion. To facilitate that change Ellen has written the following:
"Many of us in the field of mental health/behavioral science are truly vested in innovative practice informed by careful examination of outcomes. This is a forum for both the practitioner and scientist to convene for a thoughtful discussion of outcome assessment. A variety of theoretical issues could be discussed (i.e. what is the difference between outcomes assessment, program evaluation and an effectiveness study). However it has been my experience that a great many practitioners in private practice, community mental health centers, psychiatric hospitals and general medical hospitals are feeling an urgent need to plan and implement some type of an evaluation of services. A variety of consulting services have sprung up overnight to offer the solutions but the best solutions to evaluating outcomes come from thought and experience. Rather than purchasing the latest software, we invite scientists, practitioners and consumers to share opinions. In the spirit of bettering our discipline, we would like to give away the knowledge on how to conduct outcome evaluation."
I will be here and so will Gil Levin, Behavior OnLine's Editor and Publisher. Questions about using the forum software are best addressed to me on the General Forum or in private e-mail.
I am glad you found your way here and I look forward to our discussion.
With my best regards,
John Grohol
