I certainly believe in the minimizing of attrition as the best solution to the problem. However, where attrition can not be adequately controled, one might exercise greater diligence in providing a meaningful profile of persons included in the study. For example, where there are known risk/resiliency factors associated with certain outcomes, it would be helpful to understand the characteristics of the study group on such variables. By knowing whom has been studied, meaningful comparisons and inferences about the impact of sampling bias can be drawn as similar studies in various settings are reiterated.
