The Outcome Assessment Discussion Forum for BOL has been launched! Outcome assessment appears to represent the crossroad between clinical practice and applied science. The vast majority of journals devoted to the science of mental health advocate clinicians starting to conduct outcomes assessment. We felt the need for a discussion forum for professionals to discuss the practical as well as theoretical issues in this area. The average clinician is overwhelmed with recommendations to start outcomes assessment and there is virtually an endless supply of vendors who will gladly provide consultation and software.
Along with Steve Locke, I will be facilitating this forum. We are interested in the perspectives of clinicians who are already doing outcome assessment in private practice, hospitals, community mental health centers or in other settings. We would like to hear from those who are working to assemble databases. Are you wondering what instruments to use? Want to check in with others about how to best automate follow-up tracking? Feel the need to discuss the therapeutic ramifications of trying to assess patient satisfaction?
We do not want to exclude scientists working on more traditional research utilizing experimental design. Many of the data management functions that an automated system of outcome assessment can provide would be of interest to this group. Ideally this forum will allow professionals to network together on this important issue and to dispense information in real time, rather than waiting for the time necessary for peer reviewed journals to disseminate information.
I know there is a large group of professionals who are frustrated with not knowing exactly how start outcome assessment or want to talk to others in similar situations.
Hoping to hear from you!
Ellen
