A Family of Emotions and a Family of Psychotherapists
    by Don Nathanson, 1/2/96

The New Year brings with it this wonderful opportunity for conversation and collaboration with colleagues all over the world. BOL, offering us a new way of working together, triggers all kinds of positive affect in this affect theorist! I'll hover around the Forum as much as I can, probably every day, and try to answer as many questions as possible. How Silvan would have loved this venture of Gil Levin's! Thoroughly bemused by machines of all sorts, he regarded the horse as the basic and proper mode of transportation, the surfboard as something that placed him in islands of joy, and his family car as an object of mystery. He was literally fascinated by every form of machine, even though he stayed a decent distance from any that required study of an owner's manual. I really wonder what he would have said about the worldwide web and its ability to draw all of us together in one huge room. John Grohol, thanks also to you for making this forum work logically with your characteristic friendliness and efficiency. All of us are lucky to have this new way to learn from each other. I look forward to what comes next.
