EMDR and legal obligations

My therapist has suggested EMDR as a way to help deal with a crime. Several days ago, I read through your site and came across a comment that warned (my word, not yours) that treatment should wait. Because there was so much to take in, this comment did not register at that time and I can't relocate it today. Did I understand your statement correctly and would you elaborate further? It seems there may be an extra consideration when the trauma relates to court matters and that possibly my therapist is unaware. One criminal court proceeding has completed but there may be more and I know I must attend some "quasi-judicial" hearings over the next year or so.
