Why might eye movements sometimes lead to an image being more distant, other times to the image being stronger? It seems like a contradiction if you have a "black box" theory of mechanism of effect. However, it makes sense if you have a model that specifies accelerated information processing.

What happens when you process information related to a trauma memory is that it gets integrated into long-term memory and loses its freshness and power. What happens when you process information related to visualization of self-control skills, positive imagery, etc., is that the visualization is enhanced.
