Your question illustrates the power of ego state work. I'm not sure if the rocking was a form of dual attention work instead of bilateral stimulation (which some people say should work as well as bilateral stimulation). I do know that when little child ego states are present in session and get their emotional needs met by any means it tends to produce the kind of effect you are describing. The "WOW" effect. There are alot of related ways to meet those early unmet developmental needs using ego state work and EMDR (or bilateral stimulation or dual attention stimulation) with great results clinically (no research on this point).
