There are precious few controlled studies on any treatments of dissociative clients. These cases are very complex, hard to reliably assess, and treatment is multifaceted. If I were writing my article today I'd have much more emphasis on containment and stabilization than I did. EMDR has a dramatically observable tendency to dissolve dissociative barriers. What I wonder is whether exposure per se does too. Whether there are any studies of exposure for, say, DID. I haven't seen any. Just case reports of hypnotically induced abreactions.
