To Computer Tech: Please refrain from providing counseling or direct advice to individuals on this forum. Too much is at stake here. You are welcome to talk about the general issues or your own experience, but I try to discourage people from telling others people what to do here. To everyone: The concern about repressed memories is a commonly mentioned one. We all need to be aware that all human cognitive processes are subject to sources of error and EMDR is not exempt. At the same time, we can honor people's reported experience and feelings, without taking a position on what did or didn't occur. Also, it is well established that sometimes traumatic material is dissociated. When it is emergent it is typically described the way Brian has described it above. A feeling of pressure building up in the basement. To Brian, I don't know whether the following applies in your case, so this is general information only. Often, there are fierce and/or protective parts of the self that are faithfully doing the protective jobs they have been doing for years, for a lifetime. They resist change. If one "interviews" those parts of self to find out what the concerns are, they can often be oriented to the present time, place and person (adult). They then may be open to a new "job description" that is more up to date. See also "blocking beliefs," "defenses," and "resistance." Thanks for posting on your experience.
