Dr. Paulsen, I was deeply concerned by the content of your reply to Martha. You almost outright recommend this person to seek EMDR treatment and imply that she has a dissociative disorder. To make such recommendations to someone you do not know and who you do not have proper information about is highly questionable behavior. You have no real information and you have not done any assessment of this individual to even ponder giving a diagnosis and therefore to prematurely recommend EMDR is unfathonable and disconcerting to me. I do not like to have to bring this topic up so bluntly for all to read but I do not know another way to contact you. I would recommend that Martha seeks out a mental health professional in her area whom she can talk to about her problems and then look into recommended treatments. The most important thing for Martha to remember now is not to be overly worried about what therapy she should have but that help is out there for everyone, no matter what the difficulty. I give Martha much credit for looking into various treatments and I encourage her to continue doing this by contacting someone whom she can speak to face to face. Thank you, Brian
