Thank you, Don, for the patient clarifying response to my question on affects as impediments and for the encouragement regarding offender therapy. I live in the mountains west of Boulder, CO, and might be interested in study group if one existed locally though that is perhaps unlikely. I am considering your invitation to join the Tomkins Institute in any case. Meanwhile, I and several local offender therapists from various agencies are beginning a peer supervision group in early February to support one another, share insights and discuss approaches to the work. Most of us also have private practices in addition to our agency/offender group work. As I have found shame focused therapy useful in both venues, I am looking forward to sharing my enthusiasm for it in the new group. I am also re-reading Pride and Shame and, unsurprisingly, am finding it even more thought-provoking this time around. I believe I can make good use of Table 5, in your chapter on withdrawal, in my groups to help the men identify some of their own “library of scripts” and will give it a whirl in this evenings’ groups. I continue to believe that both domestic violence offender and victim populations are prime candidates for shame (rather than blame) focused therapy.
