    EMDR and the "clinical environment"
    Mary · 04/19/04 at 4:29 PM ET

I just started EMDR with my therapist. I have had appts. over the past 1 1/2 years with my therapist for PTSD and now EMDR seems like a "last resort"; therefore just started EMDR.

The memories assoc. w/EMDR are highly personal and trigger much emotional release (sobbing). At the end of an EMDR session, after I have been "grounded"; is it crossing professional boundaries to ask for a hug or a small touch on the hand? This is stated in the context of human contact rather than what I received as an abrupt ending and a highly clinical, non-personal environment. I just dumped my guts and my therapist is scrambling over them to get to the next appt. and/or will not cross a professional boundary.

What are your thoughts on boundaries within EMDR?
