First an apology to the forum -- this message is not about EMDR. Second an apology to the person that posted the previous message -- this is about some suggestions for “insomnia” that you probably have already tried. 1. Stop playing mental games with yourself and demanding that you go to sleep. You don't have to sleep, just rest during normal sleep hours. 2. Set an alarm for a reasonable time (e.g., 6:00 AM) and always get up at that time. Plan and keep a regular bedtime (e.g., 10:00 PM). 3. Never take naps during the day (e.g., when you can be active doing something like work, school, recreation, socializing, sight-seeing, etc.) 4. Get regular and sufficient exercise. Avoid ALL non-prescribed psychoactive (e.g., stimulants, depressants, alcohol, etc.). Consult a physician about the necessity/adjustments for any prescribed medications. 6. Only do self-therapy or psychotherapy during allotted times. 7. If on some occasion you really can’t stand staying in bed, don’t fight with yourself, get up and do something such as reading or housework. But remember, keep your self-discipline and get up at your regularly scheduled time. 8. Don't worry about insomnia, if you follow the above suggestions (earnestly, though not perfectly) your body's natural mechanisms will assure that you get enough rest.
