Indeed, each and every one of us has needs and feelings. Many many people feel shame about having needs and feelings, though having needs and feelings is an inescapable feature of being a human being. Shame about N&F is proof of early injury, as sure as a broken bone would be proof of an injury. Grown up parts of ourselves can learn to say, I deserve to have this body, these needs and feelings...I deserve to be here, to occupy space, to be alive, to grow and heal. Grown up parts of ourselves can learn to feel compassion for little kid parts who have the habit of believing the shame... of believing "I'm bad for having feelings." and provide the reassurance that says,.... Precious precious child, you're perfect just the way you are, and there is nothing you need to do to deserve love, and I'm so glad you are here.....and I'll be here for you forever and always (and so forth). EMDR can sometimes facilitate such resource development.
