Hello, I think you may have misunderstood what I found so valuable in Sandra's last post in this thread. While her affirmation is sweet, I am not a huge fan of "self talk". However, her comments re: early injury and shame about having needs hit home. They gave me a frame and label for the emotions I was experiencing. In other words, she helped me "choose a cognition". I always found (for myself, of course) that self talk works best if I am "aiming" it at a specific internal deficit... this is why I like emdr so much... the emphasis on choosing (the right) cognition. So, self talk works great for me if I have an appropriate negative thought to target with it... otherwise it sort of feels like indiscriminately plastering bandaids on myself, unsure of "where" the wound is. Thanks for your thoughts... hope I read them correctly.
