Ed, make that 100%! That's why I put the word dichotomy in quotation marks. Except this program doesn't do quotation marks, so we use stars (*) instead. The &lllaos stuff is what it turns quotation marks into - cool, huh? So you're right it really is not a dichotomy, but has only appeared to be from pre-affect theory perspectives. Are there any perspectives that have not seen it as such prior to Tomkins work that you've heard of?
