Jon,...I had to read your post several times over a couple days in order to respond to it in a coherent fashion. You have an exceptional understanding of musical reproduction (I too, love music) but I think you are a little short on mathematics. Math is math/music is music. A continuum (as in an axis) contains an infinite number of points. That is why science attempts to place phenomena on a continuum in order to analyze it and differentiate it from many points (point a/b/c etc.) Then a second continuum is introduced (x axis and y axis) which allows for points of comparison. Further, science can introduce additional axi (vectors) and have multiple points of comparison. Finally, but not conclusively, a scientist can take grid #1 (x + y + points and vectors (continuums other than x and y) and overlay a second (or third or forth etc.) grid which allows one to see if there are interactions between grid #1 and grid #2 etc. thus introducing matrix calculate. We seldom use this mathematical approach but we should for it is quite useful in understanding human problems. A good example would be the matrix diagnosis of Depression and Dementia among the elderly. These two diagnosis are often interactive can often "mask" each other. Severe to profound depression can often result in confusion and disorientation. Mild to moderate dementia can often present as significant depression. Thus, we have pseudo dementia or non depression. Now, if you take depression and place it on axes x and place degree and place it on axis y you are able to determine (relatively) the degree of comparative depression. Now, take dementia and place it x and take degree and place it on y you are then able to approximate the degree of comparative dementia. Finally, take grid #1 degree of depression and place it over grid #2 degree of dementia and you have matrix comparative model for analysis. Abstractly. you can now observe the nature of the interactive process between these two human problems.......Well, I don't know about you but I am going to go have a beer.......Lets keep this thread going (I have no idea where it is going but I am enjoying it)........Ed
