Hello again my friend, Reaction formation is basically a form of "ego protection". I think Kurt Vonnegut referred to it in one of his books using the word "foma" which he defined as small untruths (Wampeters,Foma and Grandfallons/Kurt Vonnegut (collection of short stories). ....As you may see if this is used repeatedly over time to the pathalogical degree it could develop into denial and this, into a major life problem...............................Now, the hard questions me. If youdon't mind Iam going to employ a stream of consciousness reponse first and then make some attempt to put this in rational context,,,,,,,Birth/Philadelphia/Bill of Rights/Native son/blue collar/Fishtown/dad-pressman/mom-waitress/Uncle John/parochial school/two sisters/Uncle Tom/WWII/dad decorated/Vietnam/Split/Non-Catholic/Radical/Mathmatics/Geometry.Irish/German/Great Spirit/Native Americans/SDS/Reject Weatherman Invitation/Survived/Forty seven/third Marriage/Happy/Aliennation/Ideation/Reduction/Fusion/Living on (not for) the moment/Bleems/Quarks/Quarks yet to be discovered. That is a brief sociobiographical/developmental sketch which I hope gives you a glimpse into my motivations. Realistically, I feel Iam just another person in a very long line of persons that feel that the (attempt at) seeking the truth is a worthy goal and a motivation in itself. I find it equally as gratifying to discover a piece of truth about human condition as I do to use mathmatical formalua to further my understanding of Geometry or to complete a sculpture that expresses a concept that others can also see (I am also a metal sculptor). Finally, I have a attained a certain level of position within the native American religion (native beliefs) which requires , as a concommitant, that I seek what motivates the "white man" to do what they do. Being a "white man" myself is of no assistance in this endeavor. So there is also a religious component to my motivations.....I hope this begins to give you an idea as to my motivations and I continue to welcome your questions ....as I said you make ne think,,,,,Now what are you motivations in asking these questions (fair is fair). ...................Ed.....................................................................................................Ps.My status within the native American religion is similar to that of a Prsbyterian Deacon or a Catholic monk . Just so those Christians out there don't think Iam off the scale.
