Meditation when properly practice can have many benefits. Speaking from personal experience, I had been dianosed as clinically depressed. I was suicidal and taking an antidepressant. A friend suggested I learn to meditate. Within three weeks of daily meditation, I was able to go off the antidepressant. Can it have detrimental effects? Yes, if the patient is Borderline or Psychoses. But for the majority of patients meditation can and does show a profound inprovement.
