    Mission Statement
    by Georg Eifert, 3/7/98

Welcome to the Behavior OnLine Forum on Anxiety Disorders! This Forum will provide an opportunity to discuss a wide range of topics related to Anxiety Disorders. We can discuss all aspects of Anxiety Disorders that interest you, including but not limited to, theory, research, diagnosis, and treatment (from a variety of perspectives). We will be open to discussing any of the Anxiety Disorders including Panic Disorder (with or without Agoraphobia), Specific Phobias, Obsessive-Compusive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder, and other stress or anxiety-related problems. We also welcome contributions discussing anxiety disorders in relation to other clinical problems that frequently co-exist with anxiety such as depression, hypochondriasis (excessive health anxiety), and pain.

This Forum is open to all who have a professional interest in Anxiety Disorders, from experienced international researchers and clinicians who have treated hundreds of clients to the new therapist who is treating his or her first anxiety patient. I see my job as facilitating and stimulating discussion on anxiety disorders across as broad a spectrum of topics as you are interested in. I personally have a behavioral approach to conceptualization and treatment, so my own knowledge base and expertise is likely to be strongest in that area. However, I strongly welcome people with a wide variety of orientations to participate actively, raise your questions, and demonstrate your expertise by answering questions from others. My hope is that we will have regular participants with different perspectives so that we can get some lively discussions going.

Please remember that this is a public forum. If you use case examples in your posts, be sure to use pseudonyms and to change any potentially identifying information in order to preserve confidentiality.

I look forward to working together with you!

    Georg
