I'm not saying it can never be an introject temporarily facing outward. I'm saying that in the usual nomenclature of dissociation, an introject is inside by definition, the manifestation of parental influences that live on. The "parent's" voice or face is observed internally by the front part of the client, (for example, "be quiet" or "you're stupid" which is commonly called the "host" for a DID client, but we don't say, "host" for a non-DID person. It's not always this way; there are as many possible "designs" for a self system as there are fertile imaginations of children. As the prior poster "Colleague" said, there are important psychological and social functions that the front part of the self serves. Like going to school and pretending everything is okay, no problem, at home. The front doesn't want to listen inside, and tries to push away the voice of the introject, in some cases anyway.
