I have used DNMS very successfully with DID clients. I have not had any clients with programming issues, so I cannot speak from personal experience to that question. I have two DNMS protocols. A 20-step protocol is for getting child parts unstuck. All the steps help to desensitize disturbing material, but Step 8 (processing strong emotions) shifts the most. It differs from EMDR processing in that the emphasis is not on noticing the disturbance, it's on noticing internal resources providing support while the disturbance processes through. The second protocol has 12-steps. It's for processing childhood traumas that were connected to unmet needs. It shares a lot in common with the 20-step protocol but it's more tailored to processing through a specific incident or trauma. Again the emphasis is just on meeting needs, and feeling supported while disturbing emotions process through. During DNMS, when the connection to the resources is sufficiently strong, the strong emotions process through quickly, efficiently, and thoroughly. The resources make it safe to confront the feelings and work them through. I hope that answers all your questions. Shirley Jean Schmidt
