Sandra, I've been in therapy for a while, using ego state therapy, emdr and body therapy. Been a slow process. More recent emdr sessions seem to have been successful - something has certainly shifted. I'm wondering now if EMDR can be used to rid oneself of learned lies. I guess that would be the same as changing beliefs about oneself, but I am seeing it as being something different. For example, if someone was called a name as a child/youth and wants to clear that name out of their system, to see it as the lie it was and be able to say "that wasn't true and isn't true" Can those lies be targeted without having to have emotions attached to them. I think I've cleared out some of the emotion, but the lies still need some work. I could do a symbolic clearing out - write down the name and throw it in the garbage where it belongs, but I sense that will not work for me as I know intellectually that the name is a lie. I'm not so sure I believe the lie, but it is still there in some form. I wouldn't tell anyone what the name (lie) is - so obviously it still has an impact. I don't know if this post is making any sense. I have a number of items such as this which I can label now as lies or half truths (which is a different issue/way of looking at some things and I won't get into here). So, can EMDR be used to help me clear out the lies without the emotional attachment really been there now?
