Psychotherapy vs Medication in the Treatment of Depression
Jim Pretzer · 12/4/96 at 1:30 PM ET

In some circles, antidepressent medication is considered to be state-of-the-art treatment for depression. However, if you've followed the outcome research on Cognitive Therapy, you already know that CT has compared favorably with meds in a number of studies. A recent review article comparing psychotherapy and antidepressants in the treatment of depression is now available on the Web at:

The article is: Antonuccio, D., Danton, W. & DeNelsky, G. (1996). Psychotherapy vs Medication for Depression: Challenging the Conventional Wisdom with Data, Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, 26, 574-585.
