Check out the Spring, 1996, "Listening: The Journal of Religion and Culture," a whole issue devoted to "The Social World of Saint Paul." In an article called "Pauline Theology ahd Shame Affect: Reading a Social Locution," Robert Atkins gives an excellent scholarly exegesis of the subject. I was most impressed by Atkins' use of our model for shame in an analysis of St. Paul's "boasting" before the Corinthians, as well as his caution to all who claim too much goodness. There is enough data in the article to trace the author, who may have a number of other references for your research.
