    I like your juxtaposition between affect and intellect. I think in Western cultures we are strongly pushed towards the peruits of the intellect because that is where the "payoff" is . We are often advused to repress our affect because this would be detrimental to our intellectual development. Or, we are shamed into repressing an affective response. However, I think I disagree with you somewhat in your portrayal of intellect and affect as being seperate entities. I would like to suggest that the intellect is the conduit through which affect flows. The intellect (cognition) is also the processor, if you will, of affective experience through which affective components are integrated into the consciousness. I see true insight and undersdtanding resulting through the tandem operation of both the intellect and the affect (working in union). Your input appreciated.......Ed
