    Meditation and Medication Times

Question: Do I meditate before or after taking psychopharmacological medications?

During last fifteen years my diagnosis has evolved from panic disorder to anxiety to major depression to ADD to Bipolar II, plus throughout I've been a recovering or relapsed compulsive binge eater. I've intermittantly been on medications and in therapy (mostly with grad. students as I am one myself with less than stellar insurance)and have learned many cognitive and behavioral techniques (the trick has been applying them).
I've begun attending a small zendo and have sat mornings for four weeks now. I'm currently sitting twenty-five minutes and have also just begun evening zazen. Various symptoms have flared-up and then subsided as I've continued to sit (except sleep onset insomnia--which is not going away).
Currently I'm on a cocktail of Lamictal and Effexor in AM, Lamictal in the afternoon, and then Celexa (pms), Klonapin (anxiety), Vicodin (restless legs), and Trazodone (insomnia) two-three hours before bedtime to let sedation kick in. Hoping meditation will lead to a decrease in my personal pharmacy! Does it matter if I meditate before or after I take the morning meds? When do I meditate in the evening? Right before bed I'm sleepy from the meds (once I get in bed I wake right up); should I meditate then or right before I take the meds, before or after dinner, etc? Looking forward to replies. Thank you.
