Thanks everyone for your replies. Dr. Spira, thank you so much for your expert opinon. Re: RLS, after non-medicine treatments, we tried dopaminergic agents which led to nasty augmentation--restless legs in the morning, afternoon, etc. Opioids are a common secondary therapy. I was prescribed Norco and take one tablet of generic hydrocodone 5mg/500mg a few hours before bedtime. I've fallen into the habit of calling it "Vicodin" because most people don't know what hydrocodone is and the pharmacy techicians call it "generic Vicodin." In the future, I'll try to use proper nomenclature when talking/writing to professionals. If I may ask one more question, do you know of any qualified psychiatrists/psychologists in the Phoenix area who incorporate meditation (specifically zazen or other Buddhist practices) into their treatment plans or are at least familiar with it's psychological/neurological effects? I'm having trouble finding anyone here who can say more than "twenty minutes twice a day has been shown to reduce anxiety." As I continue to sit daily, I'm experiencing moments of clarity and peace but also many unpleasant resurges of anxiety, fear, negative self-talk, bingeing, etc. I don't want to quit meditating and I'm not afraid of hard work but I do want to do it without a relapse into severe anxiety/depression.
Thank you for any information you can provide.
Sincerely,
C. Rezza
