My experience is mainly in the Chinese internal martial arts but I have learned & practised Kalaripayat, Yoga & Meditation with various teachers as well. I began learning KunTao in Singapore in 1971 & later that year met Teo Ah Keng, my 'Taiji father.' The first point I'd like to make is that learning 'about' something from the internet, books, videos even talking to people & going to some seminars is a very limited way of learning. It is a bit like people who know all about swimmers & swimming but they watch on TV. They don't get in the water. They don't go swimming every day. To benefit from swimming get in the water even if you are not much good & feel awkward. That's the only way to benefit. Many people who 'study meditation' are like the people who know the birth dates & life histories of the great composers & go to concerts & fill seats but never learn to play a musical instrument. I think a lot of people to study meditation are like that. They have lots of information & read lots of books but they don't do the practise. Meditation, Qigong, Taiji are skills, not just bodies of knowledge to know about.
