I hope that you aren't responding to my posts in this way, although I think that you are. I have kept all of your posts in mind when I have responded to you, beginning with your first post 6/23/02 when you described your experience with meditation. Your first post is a description of your experience. I find that meditation is best described with examples from experience. Once you get beyond the initial stage of absorbing a large body of knowledge about various forms of meditation you will begin to find that the descriptions are largely all the same, and they tell you little that you don't already know. Furthermore, they actually tell you little about the actual experience with the meditative form. This is why I humbly describe my experiences to you. And, my experiences are limited. That is, I have limited time to fully experience five types of yoga, three meditation disciplines, and various forms of martial arts, other New Age techniques, and apply them all to treatments. So, that leaves me with either repeating what almost every author repeats, a dry description that is largely the same as the next description, or I can tell you about my experiences. In my experience, I have learned a lot more from a person's description of their meditation, which differs widely from person to person regardless of the form of meditation. I don't think that you will find a comprehensive body of knowledge written out there describing which form of meditation should be applied successfully to a particular diagnosis, much less having had it proven in a double-blind study. I may be wrong, but it's my understanding that these practices are just beginning to become mainstream enough to be accepted as an legitimate area of psychological treatment and study. You might want to seek out Tara Bennett-Goleman's book Emotional Alchemy, combining mindfulness meditation and schema therapy. That seems to be on the cutting edge of treating personality disorders. You might want to look into DBT also. I wish you luck finding literature that will help you broaden your background and your understanding of meditation and psychotherapy. May you also find peace, love, and humility in your journey so that you may bring that to those you hope to treat.
