I have read with interest the comments on the Fluency model of learning emphasising speed. Doubtless all the examples apply to technical production. However, I teach provision of a service rather than a product. I am a trainer in psychotherapy and this concept interested me because of cetain difficulties one of my students has in responding to her clients. She ponders to the point of being inarticulate whilst the client's dialogue races past her. The difficulty is undoubtedly one of intense self-consciousness and fear of mistakes. However, unless she loosens up, takes risks and speeds up nothing will change.
Perhaps a teaching technique which insists upon speed at the expense of accuracy would be more useful than the understanding and caring approach I have taken so far. Has anyone tried to teach human functioning in this way using the Fluency model.
