Carmen;
Thanks for the reply. I think you are making a good point in saying "I just knew that some approaches were more acceptable to me, and I thought that this was due to a difference in personality (of the therapist)." If I translate this with Adlerian terminology, it might be like " It depends on life style (or hidden goal) of the therapist".
I learned Adlerian psychology in Japan. I was strongly influenced by Shunsaku Noda, who worked with Dr. Schulman in Chicago. Mr. Noda argued that life style diagnosis is not always necessary and tried to train psychotherapist without accessing the life style of them.
Later on, I worked with Henry Stein in San-Francisco. There I realized that for optimal psychotherapy, optimal life style of the therapist is indispensable. Otherwise the client will not believe the therapist. Henry also pointed out that Dr. Dreikurs has never had his own life style accessed . Henry insisted that although the contribution of Dreicurs in spreading Adlerian method is big, his therapy is suboptimal in comparison with classical Adlerian therapy.
How the people in Vancouver train therapists?
