    Tsunehisa Namba:

I found your question very relevant. I am close to complete the Adlerian program here in Vancouver, yet, I am not 100% sure of the difference between Classical Adlerian Psychology and Dreikurs’s approach. I just knew that some approaches were more acceptable to me, and I thought that this was due to a difference in personality. For instance, have you seen the video about Dr Mosak's counselling sessions with a young man? If you have, could you tell me if you would feel comfortable in such situation?

For those that have not seen it, a young man, recently divorced is interviewed by Dr. Mosak. He is using defenses quite fiercely. To my understanding, he was not ready to face reality. He blames his ex-wife for the failure of the marriage, and he also has some plans he "intends" to put into effect "soon". This is what Dr. Mosak calls "good excuses". I really think that he needs them so that he can accept himself. Well, Dr. Mosak confronts him. I am not saying that this is wrong, but rather, that I would not do it. I think that one needs the personality for this, and I will not push a client beyond where he/she wants to be, even if it is to the benefit of this client.

    Where is your school situated?
