I don't know in particular, obviously, about you and your case, and this forum isn't an appropriate place to provide case particulars. But let me make some general comments about headaches and EMDR as it relates to all clients. Headaches between sessions are a suggestion that the EMDR processing has pulled near the surface of awareness something that the client has "disowned". I mean that the client is saying, "I don't feel that way", "It's not okay to feel that way or have that point of view" or "It didn't happen to me" or "that isn't real". It is like having one foot on the accelerator and one foot on the brake. Therapists should always administer the DES or other screening device prior to administering EMDR to ensure that the amount of disowning or distancing from feelings is relatively minor. The DES was included in the therapist's Level I training manual. When the disowning is minor, the solution is for the therapist to help the client to be willing to entertain and allow anything to come into awareness, and accept that all the feelings are okay and naturally and undestandable. When the disowning is major, there is significant work needed before using EMDR to get permission and agreement from the entire self to do the EMDR work, among other things. A trained professional can determine whether the client's amount of disowning is minor or major and how to proceed. If you print this off and bring it in to your therapist, the therapist will have the information needed to take the next steps or seek an appropriate consultation to get the specifics needed to evaluate YOUR case (in stead of the general information I have provided here).
