The DES is the Dissociative Experiences Scale, originated by Frank Putnam and Eve Carlson, to determine whether an individual has experiences that suggest they disown some of their feelings, memories, body sensations, or behavior. It is customarily administered before the first EMDR to know whether the client is appropriate for proceeding immediately with EMDR, or if a special EMDR protocol should be used. I don't know what the SIDS is. Clients benefit from knowing about their condition, to a large extent. Screening tests, however, are intended to help a therapist know whether or not a condition is present. The fact that a therapist uses any given screening procedure, just proves that they are being careful, not that the client necessarily has the condition. In any case, a client with questions about screening or diagnosis should ask their therapist about it.
