Dear Dr. Inobe, I have a friend, my SO for almost nine years who is not dissociative. But I have seen in him four distinct states with hard edges and no overlap. And I perceive these as splits. Trauma parts I understand, how they are formed and how they fill out over time, but these are not trauma parts as far as the two of us can tell. And I want to first state that I understand that you cannot do diagnosis over the web, so I only want to ask a general question that may or may not apply to my friend, but could also apply to dissociatives as well as non-dissociatives. In general, have do you have any knowledge of non-traumatic splitting, and is it possible for dissociatives to have both trauma parts and non-trauma parts? If so, is EMDR also effective in treating this non-traumatic splitting? Is there any research on this?
