It isn't mirroring and it isn't validating, and it isn't particularly gentle. It is designed to raise the level of the disturbance, so that it can be processed. So although I wouldn't have used the word "goading", it is closer to that than it is to mirroring. It's like when you have a sliver that you can't get at to remove. You have to do ungodly things to get at the end of it. Once you have it in reach, THEN and only then can you remove it. So it is here. The original post was about not having a high enough level of disturbance. I'm saying the therapist can deliberately say things to provoke a HIGHER level of disturbance, so that the processing may begin.
