My therapist has always been aware of my negative reaction to this "technique". As with any intervention I assumed she possessed goodwill in utilizing it... but that didn't mean I liked or understood it. Dr. Inobe's comments helped me to understand it. That was all I meant. I think emdr can be harsher than many more traditional treatments -- attitundinally and affectively. It is also quicker, deeper and more healing. Part of that means trusting the therapist a bit more... if any one besides my therapist asked me "what the worst part" of anything was, I'd want to know why they were torturing me!!! I never ever got asked that question before I worked with my current (emdr) therapist. Who asks that sort of question whether or not we are doing processing. Guess I am saying, there is always room for discussion of the therapeutic field, but the field is a bit different in its very foundation in emdr work.
