Re:EMDR therapy for pseudo-seizures

Unfortunately, we cannot make individual case consultations here. I will however make a general comment or two that may or may not apply. These comments are based upon clinical impressions and not upon controlled research. Pseudoseizures are sometimes related to traumatic material, sometimes very very early traumatic material. EMDR has been observed in a number of cases to both trigger and help resolve pseudoseizures. Children with a history of apparent pseudoseizures might be assessed for degree of dissocation (which may be totally absent) using the screening test of the DES-adolescent version. A mental health professional specializing in dissociative conditions should have access to appropriate screening and diagnostic procedures.
