    Re:EMDR therapy for pseudo-seizures

Pseudo-seizures is generally used to convey that the seizure is not one bsed upon an organic condition such as epilepsy but rather is a psychologically based seizure. I've explained how this might occur when EMDR taps into dissociated material.

If an individual who has never had a seizure finds themselves experiencing uncontrollable behaviors of some sort during an EMDR session, I think the probability is that the EMDR triggered it, though I suppose there is a VERY remote chance that it is a coincidence, an onset of an organic condition in the middle of an EMDR session unrelated to that EMDR session.

We see this frequently tho, that EMDR triggers thoughts, pictures, sounds, smells, or bodily sensations or behaviors. It's more dramatic if it is an uncontrolled behavior like a tic or pseudoseizure. Generally, we just keep sailing right through it, as long as it is not overwhelming, and the client will get to the end. The client may or may not know what it is about. Especially if it is related to an apparent preverbal memory, its not clear what's going on. The bottom line is whether the client's life is getting better or worse.

Anybody wondering if they have an organic condition should be evaluated by a medical doctor.
