3 weeks ago my 14 year old daughter experienced extreme dizzines and seizure-like symptoms. She was admitted to the hospital for 3 days. Numerous tests were performed (CT scan, EEG, MRI, ultrasound and numerous blood tests). They all came back normal. Some of the seizure-like symptoms lasted up to 4 hours (she never lost consciousnes) in spite of many drugs administered.(Valium, Atavan, anti-seizure drugs and Benadryl). We were eventually told these "episodes" were not life threatening and we should pursue psychotherapy. She is still under the care of her pediatric neurologist who prescribed Topamax to control her symptoms. A 6 hour video EEG is in the future. The Topamax has seemed to show some improvement. After her 3rd visit with a psychotherapist (MSW, ACSW and cert in EMDR) recommended a 90 minute EMDR therapy session. In all my reading I have not seen EMDR to be used for pseudo-seizures or major ticks. We are not aware of any abuse or trauma she has experience. More information - My daughter was diagnosed at age 7 with type I diabetes and at age 12 with facial tics. (she was previously on Haldol). She is extremely intelligent, self-motivating and a Type A personality. Should I pursue the EMDR therapy?
