I am a Masters Level Social Worker who has worked extensively with trauma issues, addictions, children and adults, speciality in womens issues, and SED children. I am seeking more clinical information on EMDR;however, it is for personal reasons. Two years ago I became critically ill with anorexia and although I have made tremendous progress the severity and co-morbid diagnosis have resulted in my being on disability. I believe that I would be typically classified as a "complex" case or diagnosis. Specifically in addition to the anorexia, I have PTSD, DDNOS, Major Depression (which is chronic and severe), as well as being in recovery from substance abuse for the past ten years. My therapist has been trained in and has been practicing EMDR for the past three years. We are currently in the beginning phases of EMDR - specifically developing and using a safe place. I should note that I have been working with this therapist for almost five years now and she has expertise in the other areas of concern to me (other diagnosis). I am wanting more information on the clinical aspects / protocols specific to my diagnosis. We have discussed that EMDR will be on several levels with me, specific to appropriate ego states. I have some concern about how this will play out for me. In particular how these different ego states will respond to EMDR. I have also been unable to find any literature on the use of EMDR with severe anorexia (medically I am still at risk of organ failure due to low percent of body fat and weight). I have also been unable to find any literature that deals with EMDR across the continium of dissociative disorders. The literature on dissociative disorders in general seems to be on extreme ends of the spectrum; either PTSD or DID. Any information, referrals to other resources would be appreciated. I would also be interested in talking with other professional therapist who have used EMDR for their own personal growth. I decided to postpone attendence at the recent L1 training that was offered in my hometown due to above mentioned reasons; however, I have a professional as well as personal interest in learning more about this approach. Emails are also welcome at lunal@bellsouth.net Thanks so much.
