A list of cautions and client selection criteria is taught to every trained clinician and is in my 1995 textbook. The person you are describing who reported spasms appears to be someone mistreated by someone either not trained, or who ignored simple clinical sensitivity. The best thing to do is to interview several well-trained clinicians who are already comfortable and successful with EMDR. Explain your concerns and they can give you details of whether or not it is advisable for you. A list is available through inst@emdr.com
