The following articles and taped presentation regarding the treatment of dissociative disorders are available: Fine, C.G. (1994, June). Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) for dissociative disorders. Presentation at the Eastern Regional Conference on Abuse and Multiple Personality. Alexandria, VA. Lazrove, S., & Fine, C.G. (1996). The use of EMDR in patients with dissociative identity disorder. Dissociation, 9, 289-299. Paulsen, S. (1995). Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing: Its use in the dissociative disorders. Dissociation, 8, 32-44 For the treatment of substance abuse: Shapiro, F., Vogelmann-Sine, S., & Sine, L. (1994). Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing: Treating trauma and substance abuse. Journal of Psychoactive Drugs, 26, 379-391. For all other questions I must respectfully ask you to consult your clinician. If your clinician is trained in EMDR than she has available to her a variety of clinical resources including consultation with clinicians who have specialized in these disorders. Presentation tapes from the annual EMDRIA conferences are available on all the topics you have mentioned and consultation lists are available through the EMDR Institute as well. An article is currently being written on the treatment of eating disorders by Carol York who is available through the EMDRIA office in Austin, Tx. It is important that you discuss your concerns with your clinician and that she access the information directly. How your ego states respond to EMDR will depend upon the preparation phase, implementation of the procedures, and your interaction with your clinician. If your clinician is comfortable with DDNOS as a specialty area than she should be able to address your concerns. The conference tapes I mentioned are probably available to you as well. However, it is vital that your clinician have first hand information, as well as direct access to consultation and resources.
