Narrative/CBT Approach to OCD in children
    Jo · 04/19/02 at 6:36 ET

I am working with a young girl with OCD (contamination fears) and am using narrative therapy combined with CBT. I have two main questions:

    1. Is there any research which evaluates the addition of narrative therapy ie. externalising, in CBT approaches? It seems to be helpful in this case, if only to foster therapeutic engagement with a very anxious child but I can't find any specific evidence.

    2. The client says that she does not know exactly what her obsession is. She describes it as a fear that something bad will happen but cannot operationalise this further. I am not sure whether to push this or whether she is genuinely unable to describe her fear - is this common in children?
