    Legal Issues for Therapists (Reid)

    Greetings!

Having read occasional headlines about therapists having had a sexual (or as our president prefers to call it "inappropriate") relationship with their patients, I came to think of a hypothetical dilemma! What if the therapist and the "patient" are both psychiatrists (or therapists in general). Can the one having taken the role of "therapist" in this duo claim in defense, that, "well,...he/she (the pt) knows all about trans/counter-transferance...after all the patient is a therapist him/herself!!!..."?

My feeling is that the judicial system does not allow for such defence to stand. What is your opinion?
