    Texas rules

Nicolas -- I'm not a psychologist, but I think I can paraphrase the rules in Texas. In the USA, each state has its own licensing and practice laws, some more restrictive than others. In Texas, "psychologist" refers to a clinical-doctoral-level person who has completed the requirements for Texas licensure. One can be a "psychological associate" at the masters level, and work under supervision. In some cases, masters-level psychologists who work for State agencies may do the work of licensed psychologists. There are also two classes of counselors/psychotherapists: "licensed professional counselor" and "advanced clinical practitioner," the latter requiring considerably more training and experience (many MSW therapists are ACPs).
